Hallelujah! I'm a bum

Instead of listing some of the many new items I photographed this week for the shop, I created my very first Treasury! I have been wanting to make one for soooo long and I finally did it!

My Treasury, "Hallelujah! I'm a bum", is named after a song by Harry "Haywire Mac" McClintock and includes some of my decor inspirations for my hobo-themed wedding next May. Haywire Mac was a travelin' man and had his recording heyday in the 1920s and 30s. You've surely heard his "Big Rock Candy Mountain", but here's "Hallelujah":

Enjoy!

Anatomy of an Outfit

I spent the afternoon today photographic some new fall clothing and accessories for the shop at SquidWhale HQ, my new textile design studio space. It was nice to have a big open space to work in (we're not totally moved in, so it won't last long) and a "borrowed" dress form, but the light was not ideal. The shoot quickly turned into an outfit-making bonanza. It was so fun! I didn't plan it, but there were just so many pieces that went so well together.

Outfit #1:
70s black felt bow cloche
70s-80s black velvet riding blazer
80s black leather skinny belt studded with gold lion heads, Anne Klein
modern heather gray ruffle blouse (mine)
80s-90s brown and white houndstooth skirt (in the shop now)
80s dove gray leather mini-wedges

Outfit #2

c. 1930s-40s Continental brand oversized kisslock purse/overnight luggage 1930s-40s

1980s plaid maxi-skirt, Liz Claiborne

GRAPHITE

Three of my drawings are currently in an art show, GRAPHITE, at Barefoot Doctor Community Acupuncture in Fishtown. The opening reception was this past Friday. I shared the walls with Justin Grant, Aubrie Costello and Anne Canfield, three fantastic Philadelphia artists who show far more often than myself. The show was curated by Darla Jackson, amazing sculptor and college chum.

My drawings were inspired by the animal dances of the Ragtime Era (I have this DVD, it's awesome!), acting improvisation and my very flexible model and business partner, Beth.

Here's some images from the opening reception. I am horrible at documenting my work properly, so please excuse the glare on the glass ...

My model, Beth, lounging in one of the anti-gravity chairs:

Me with my work. Thanks for looking!

Come on up to the house

Yesterday I heard a cover of this song on Prairie Home Companion. Then I remembered that it is one of my favorite songs of all time and immediately added it to the play list for the live jug band at our Hobo Wedding. I love you Tom!

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

ARRRRRRR! BLAST IT ALL! I almost missed the boat on International Talk Like a Pirate Day! You would think all of the pirate-themed Treasuries on the Etsy FP or today's pirate-themed game on my new favorite iPhone app, Q Rank, would have clued me in. Alas, they didn't.

To celebrate, I have listed a few new pirate-y items and relisted a few from the back of the shop.

AND, just for fun I found myself a few "pirate essentials" on Etsy ...
