Turning 30: Trust Yourself and Believe in the Future

Bad Twin Turns Thirty with Good Twin only Minutes Behind!

Bad Twin's Birthday Drink - A Dirty Hendricks Martini

It's fashionable to drink gin that doesn't taste like pine trees.

Hendricks gin is infused with cucumber and rose. It's is delightful in a simple gin and tonic, I like to add a splash of grapefruit juice, but is sweet enough to translate well in a Pina Colada. Go ahead, say that's weird. I've tried it, served it to guests even, all were astounded.

Vintage Possessions Vintage handmade Gin Sock

After one Hendricks martini I think I would be tipsy enough to order these shoes for myself for my birthday, even if they are a half size too small. If they sit forever in my closet at leat I'll hear them screaming because they are loud!

Bad Twin likes her martini glass full to the brim and her hot pants tight. I was born to fill out these overalls. Plus the bib will keep the birthday cake out of my undies.

No link here. I want them that bad.

This jacket is like one of those bleu cheese stuffed olives they put in martinis. FABULOUS yet not necessary.

Atilladesign, based in Finland, creates wearable art. The designs are custom-made with passion. This jacket is called the Urban Samuri. It's an abstract cape that will transform you in to a Girlilla Goddess. When I blow out my candles I'll be wishing for this.

As I approach thirty I am growing to trust my instincts and believe in the future.

Only if my instincts lead me to Tuscany.

And this Italian Agriturismo is in my future.

Agriturismo is a combination of the words "agriculture" and "tourism" in Italian. It is a style of vacationing in farm house resorts. A vacation is suitable for the whole family and can be romantic or even very luxurious.

An Italian agriturismo will usually serve food to guests prepared from raw materials produced on the farm. Some will allow the guest to actually participate in the activities surrounding the farm. You will have a permanent invitation...

Ciao Bella!

P.S. Mom, don't buy me that jacket, it's too expensive. Put cash into my Italian Castle Fund.

Brimfield Antiques and Collectibles by Bad Twin

GEAR UP
for the last week of Brimfield Antique Fair until next summer!
Looking for an instant collection? What I learned when I got into the tent city was that the first day or two were reserved for wholesale and venders trade or buy in bulk.

Good Twin and I set out to, "see it all!" I double dare anyone to try and do so. Both sides of the street are littered with tents filled with eye candy or eye sores. If you are browsing with a group the best strategy is to agree on a meeting place. Good Twin and Box Brown agreed to meet at the hand-carved turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce hoagie stand. The stand was a delicious landmark.

OR
you could just skip it! It probably wont be sweltering July heat but the attitudes people have about their piles of junk is just as unbearable. Good Twin asked to look at a few wooden broaches. The vender took them out of an overflowing mismanaged glass case, placed them on a velvet cloth and wouldn't let her touch them. Good Twin wasn't impressed. Bad Twin quipped have fun lugging all that stuff home with you! That being said, there were a few good deals the last day.

What Bad Twin Took Home

Vintage Industrial Heat Lamp
cage shade, gets hot fast
Basket Weave by Etienne Aigner
available at Humpsastuff Vintage on Etsy $98.00

Thermos Caraff

Plumage Plopage

This one stays in my closet.

This uniform will defiantly get some use;)

It's worth going to Brimfield just for the atmosphere, that is, if you like watching antiques collect dust!
Last word of wisdom, it really helps if you have a specific item in mind that you would like to buy so the mere vastness doesn't throw you off.

See ya there...

Good-bye wisdom

On Thursday at exactly 12:30PM, I am saying "good-bye" to my wisdom ... teeth, that is. #1 & #16, to be exact.

Here's some X-rays. This first little guy is #1. This was taken a few years back, when he was only half-way down. Now he's completely in!

When this was taken little baby #16 hadn't even come down far enough to show up in the picture yet and now he's halfway in ...

I have been having stress dreams out the wazoo (partially work-related, partially teeth-related). To make myself feel better, I have been looking at these images from "A Child's Book of the Teeth" (via Some Girls Wander, one of my favorite internet ladies). Don't they make you want to take care of your teeth?

Should I get to keep my extracted teeth and they're not in bits, I will share pictures here soon. Here's hoping!

birthday wishes ...

I'm turning 30 on Sept. 10th. I'm so happy with where my life is right now! In love with an amazing man and in the process of planning our hobo wedding. And, I am about to go part-time at the ol' day job so I can work on Mouse Trap Vintage and SquidWhale Designs full-time. Dreams really do come true, folks. Just takes a magical mix of hard work, persistence, talent and luck.

Here's some of my birthday wishes. ('Cept for the bag by forestbound. It's already mine.)
This list also represents almost all of my favorite shops on Etsy...

From top to bottom:
1. Tote by forestbound
2. 1930s dress by greatestfriend
3. Inside-out pillow by enhabiten
4. 1940s dress by 1385
5. Harmonica necklace by Diament Jewelry (got something similar for my sweet sixteen and I miss it)
6. Tunic blouse by Sunday Factory

silocurb

There's a little shop on Etsy called silocurb that is filled with curious things I didn't know I needed until I saw them. The shop owner, Diane, also writes cryptic descriptions that are so intriguing and help to breath life into the inanimate objects.

For example ...

...
He said, "People come to my shop for 2 reasons, one is my work is good and second my listening is better."
He kept hard candy, tissues, and a pint of whiskey in this box.
...
...
It is a handmade wooden gage for circles.
Maybe it was a tool for a tool maker
or a pasta server
or a circle draw-er.
...
...
This lamp hung on a wood-paneled wall for many years.
When it was taken away the mark left on the wall was the shape of a squirrel.
No one could explain this.
...

Go see for yourself ...

Breaking up is hard to do.

I purchased this little ring at a porch sale in my neighborhood on Saturday morning. The sale was at a TOTAL HOARDER'S house who was trying to get rid of her collections before moving. I am so glad I took the time to separate the tangles mess of beads and chains, or else I would never have discovered Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.

I photographed her right away and listed her on Sunday morning. She sold immediately. She will most certainly go down in history as the little ring that got away and be added to my list of regretful sales.

Good-bye, Little Red! Enjoy your trip to Spain...
