I took this photo of the 1940s Christmas room at the semi-permanent exhibit at the Lancaster Quilt & Textile Museum in Lancaster. I HIGHLY recommend visiting the museum to see the exhibit! It's like taking a trip in a magical time machine!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

I lurve vintage quilts, but am almost as intrigued by the dizzying patterns of cheater quilt fabrics. Cheater quilts mimic the look of actual painstakingly hand crafted quilts, but with 1/1000th of the work. Perhaps I appreciate these cheats because I lack the time and patience to take up quilting myself (Me = lazy). More likely it's because I love pattern on pattern on pattern (infinity) and these fabrics are just that.

I just listed this SWEET chevron "cheater quilt" quilted jacket  in my shop:

Here's some amazing cheater quilt fabrics available on Etsy now, for all your lazy quilting needs:

On the horizon for my new textile design co., SquidWhale Designs, is a collection of "cheater quilt" style fabric.  I haven't done any of the work yet, but I can feel it. Can you feel it? In the meanwhile, check out what's been going on at SquidWhale Designs. We've (mostly my partner Beth has, let's be honest) been working hard to roll out some new embroidered brooches and wall wear and card sets and prints are coming soon! Check 'em out!

(PS: Sorry there's no links to the fabric on Etsy! For some reason Blogspot won't allow me to attach links and I lost my patience. If you want to know how to find them, just ask!)

Hail the Wale!

This morning on CBS Sunday Morning, Bill Geist reported on the 5th Annual Grand Meeting of The Corduroy Appreciation Club, a social club for people who like Corduroy fabric. It opened up a whole new world for me! I've always been a corduroy appreciator, or a Wale (and a whale!), but now I am an official member of the club (and perhaps soon-to-be card-holding member).

About The Corduroy Appreciation Club

Mission Statement:
The Corduroy Appreciation Club wishes to cultivate good fellowship by the advancement of Corduroy awareness, as well as, understanding, celebration, and commemoration of the fabric and all related items. Club events are held on dates which incorporate, resemble or refer to corduroy.

The Corduroy Appreciation Club’s main public symbol is the whale. The whale is a homonym of wale. Wale, or wales, is the raised portion of Corduroy fabric—its most distinctive trait and what makes Corduroy, Corduroy. Whales also possess attributes the CAC and its membership wish to exude: strength, endurance, intelligence, sociability, and mystery. The Whale should always be facing left.

The number 11, being a figure which closely resembles Corduroy, is extremely important to the CAC’s iconography. Other non-public symbols incorporate the number 11. The club meets biannually on 1/11 and 11/11 (the date the annual Grand Meeting is held)

Word from Miles Rohan, President of the Corduroy Appreciation Club:

Some amazing pictures from this year's Grand Meeting on 11/11 (via colormekatie's Flickr photostream)

In honor of the Corduroy Appreciation Club, I thought I would share some of my current Corduroy faves on Etsy ...

Next year is the ultimate celebration for Corduroy lovers - 11/11/11. I have already marked my calendar! You should come, too! Hail the Wale!!!
